ADAPT goes to DC to fight for the Community Choice Act

On April 27, 2009, hundreds of disability rights activists descended upon Washington D.C. to make it clear to the President and Congress that health care reform must include the Community Choice Act, which would end the built-in bias in the Medicaid system that forces people into nursing homes instead of paying for community-based services.

CIDNY’s own Paula Wolff was there, taking time off from being the Director Services Supervisor in our Manhattan office and President of Disabled in Action. Several CIDNY consumers also attended. You can read all about it in USA Today’s article.

Here are some photos of the event from ADAPT, the organizers of the demonstration. Go to their website for more photos, plus a report on how protesters chained themselves to the White House gate, after which 91 were arrested.
